1 Peter 2:4-10 Proclaiming His Excellencies

1 Peter 2:2-10
We Come to Him.
We Get Built Up.
We Proclaim His Excellencies

Hebrews 13:15-16

We can proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WAYS.
Hebrews 15:16 Do not neglect to do good

1 Peter 2:11-12

We can proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WORDS.
Hebrews15:16 …and to share what you have

We can proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WORSHIP.
Hebrews 15:15 …continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

We can proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WAYS, IN OUR WORDS, and IN OUR WORSHIP.

Three Challenges:

Proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WORDS: find a way to mention Jesus to someone who needs to hear about him in an in-person conversation this week.

Proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WAYS: do a random act of kindness to someone outside your family, but not in total secret. Be sure the person knows you did what you did because of your love for Jesus.

Proclaim His excellencies IN OUR WORSHIP: take time to write a letter to God expressing your love, affection and thanks for the many ways you’ve seen his goodness (in your life and in our world).

1 Peter 1:13-2:3 …And Love One Another Deeply on the Journey

1 Peter 1:13-21
Put Grace in the Driver’s Seat…
1 Peter 1:22-2:3
…And Love One Another Deeply on the Journey
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
1 Peter 2:1
Love has no malice
Love has no deceit
Love has no hypocrisy
Love has no envy
Love has ho slander

Put Grace in the Driver’s Seat, and Love One Other Deeply on the Journey.

Engage authentically.
Expect transparency.
Encourage vulnerability.

1 Peter 1:13-21 Put Grace in the Driver’s Seat

“1 Peter is one of the noblest books in the entire new testament, containing all that is necessary for a Christian to know.” ~ Martin Luther

Set Your Hope Fully on Grace

Put grace in the driver’s seat.

Be Ready
Be Right-Minded.
Be Obedient
Be Different
Be Holy
Be Reverent
Hebrews 4:15-16
Be Faithful
Be Hopeful

2 Timothy 1:9 NLT

Grace has some “expectations.”

1 Peter 1:10-12 Curious Angels

1 Peter 1:10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully,

Their intent was personal; their intensity was strong.

1 Peter1:11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.

John 12:32-34

1 Peter 1:12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.

Luke 24:12

We are waiting for what they were waiting for.

We are living in what they were longing for.

Matthew 1:21
Luke 2:10-12

1 Peter 1:8-9 Blind Faith, True Love

1 Peter 1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him.]Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

Don’t be fixated on your pain; be focused on your joy.

2 Corinthians 4:8-12
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NLT 16That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are[a] being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

1 Peter:19 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

The challenge for us is to actually DO THIS [rejoice with joy]!

1 Peter 1:6-7 Faith Refined by Fire

1 Peter 1:6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

Don’t be fixated on your pain; be focused on your joy.

1 Peter 1:7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire —may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

“Untested faith may be true faith, but it is sure to be small faith, and it is likely to remain little as long as it is without trials.” ~Charles Spurgeon

A faith refined by fire is more genuine, valuable and pure.

1 Peter 1:7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Job 23:10 “He knows the way I take; when he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.”

1 Peter 1:3-5 Living Hope, Precious and Certain

1 Peter:1:3
You have a living hope; it has been raised up with Jesus.

1 Peter 1:4
You have a precious hope; it is a heavenly inheritance that’s waiting for you.

1 Peter 1:5
You have a certain hope; it is salvation, guaranteed.

John 10:27-30
Colossians 3:3

Romans 8:24-25

How should we be living differently now since we know we have salvation/an inheritance waiting for us?
